Great Social Places for the Elderly to Meet Other Seniors in Tucson, AZ

Because older adults run the risk of becoming socially isolated, Tucson senior care experts encourage getting out of the house more often to interact with others their age. If your elderly loved one is looking for a place to meet other seniors, check out this list of 4 local spots offering social events where he or she can mingle and make new friends.

1. Armory Park Center

Located at 220 South 5th Street, this facility offers seniors a Caring and Sharing social every Thursday from 10am to 11am. In this class, your loved one can sit and share heartfelt stories and experiences with his or her peers while enjoying some coffee and delicious refreshments. Storytelling empowers seniors and provides a unique way to rediscover their life and connect with others.

2. Randolph Recreation Center

Located at 200 South Alvernon Way, this activity center hosts a Golden Age Club for people ages 50 and over every Tuesday from 9am to 2pm. In this club, your loved one can look forward to doing a variety of activities each week that include playing cards and board games, making crafts, doing exercises, and going on day trips. Belonging to a social group gives your loved one the chance to build new relationships and boost his or her mood.

3. William M. Clements Center

This entertainment facility at 8155 East Poinciana Drive provides a healthy lunch social for people 60 and over, and their spouses of any age may also participate. This social happens from 9am to 1pm each day, and lunch is served from noon to 12:30pm. The meals they prepare offer seniors 1/3 of their daily suggested dietary allowances, and they are also low in salt, fat, and sugar. The center asks for a $2 donation per meal to help support the program, and reservations need to be made a week prior. This program can benefit your loved one’s overall mental and physical health.

4. Cherry Avenue Center

Located at 5085 South Cherry Avenue, this recreation center offers a Senior Club Ages 50+ program that meets the first Monday of the month. This club’s activities include senior game day, guest speakers, monthly field trips, special events, and mall walking. Belonging to this program can help your loved one make new friends and build his or her self-esteem. A Senior Activity Card is needed to join.
